I didn't quite know what to expect upon reading this particular piece of literature. I had a feeling it would be good, and it WAS. Very very good. As the first book I have read by this author I must say I am impressed by her technique. She's very modern in her work and her writing is like listening to one of your girlfriends tell her story.  I loved her rendition of Cupid, she really put a new spin on him and on love and lust. I also must say that the male love interest in this piece seems so sexy and witty that it makes me wonder why all men can't be spontaneous and sexy and have a sense of humor. He's also buff and can work a gun. She made sex light-weight and fun and it is overall a funny and flirty book. 

My only criticism is that it ended too soon. I was left wanting more. Which is a good thing and a bad thing. Over all 4 stars. Would have been 5 stars had it been just a teensy bit longer.

Today I want to talk about a very beautiful, very sweet, kinda bonkers individual. Her name is Cynthia St. Aubin and she's the type of person I would have loved to have as a friend in high school - because she would GET ME. Don't let that pretty, normal looking picture fool ya; she's one quirky lady!

About the writing thing...

I wrote my first play when I was six and made my brothers perform it for my parents. I charged gum wrappers for admission (a steal, in my opinion, considering I had handed out the gum wrappers ahead of time). While I seriously doubt you'll be seeing any of my formative work on Broadway anytime soon, I can credit these early experiments with the first of many important lessons I learned about writing: no matter how brilliant your manuscript is, some kid can go streaking butt-ass nekkid across the living room, and totally undermine your vision.

Everyone watches the naked kid because running across the living room with your cheeks flapping in the breeze is friggin' hilarious. 

Cue the lightbulb moment. People like funny stuff!

I never quite gave up on the writing thing, even as I tried my hand at being a dusty academic turned Executive Assistant (they paid me to nag! How cool is that?), but in those quiet moments when expense reports had been filed and to-do items checked off, the funny people in my head kept talking to me. 

Yes, I know they have medication for that. It's called vodka.

Since they discourage drinking at work, I started writing instead. What came out was an amalgamation (vocabulary!) of all the things I love: funny stuff, art, psychology, food, people, and paranormal critters!

​Et voila! The Case Files of Dr. Matilda Schmidt, Paranormal Psychologist were born.

When I'm not sitting in my office watching cat videos and pretending to write, I like cooking, knitting (badly), and reading anything that makes me laugh (like my bank statements).

I live in Colorado with my brilliant husband and three surly cats.

You see what I mean? Cynthia was born to write creatively. 

I met Cynthia, I believe through Mark Henry at one of his events (and I actually met Mark through Dakota, lol). She was yammering on and on about unicorns and unicorns pooping all kinds of sweets (and rainbows) and she asked for people who were interested, to join her street team. I was very intrigued. I joined. And boy, am I glad I did! It's probably my favorite street team I'm on. It's very hands on, both Cynthia and her minions (that's us) support one another and we laugh and have a good time. We talk about books, and manly men, and food that Cynthia likes to attack with her face - which I think is all food at this point. Also, I think her lunacy is contagious. Which is fine by me because I was already labeled eccentric long before I ever met her.

Reading her series, The Case Files of Dr. Matilda Schmidt is a blast. I've read the first two books in the series and they are so creative, so funny, and hot too! Cynthia combines her kookiness with her appreciation of hot men and makes some really interesting stories. (I wonder when she'll incorporate all that food...) It's over already? Man, I was so digging this story! Uptight, sexless, psychologist, Matilda Schmidt goes on the adventure of a lifetime filled with mythological creatures and hot sexy men. Of course, she doesn't go willingly, more like at gun point, but that's neither here nor there. Matilda has to cure Cupid, and clear her name, all while being kidnapped, handcuffed, starved, forced to eat meat (she's a vegan), and endure wearing heels for 17 hours - ouch! And let's not forget Cupid's arrow...

I really enjoyed all of the characters the author created, from stuffy Matilda, all the way to Stefano the Fathead - yeah, you read that right. Colorful bunch. It's a short read, and I enjoyed every word of every page. Truly a nice, quick, hot, funny, entertaining read. I highly recommend you give this book (the first in its series) a try. You will not be disappointed! And last time I checked, it was FREE on Amazon.
